This small display serves as a supplement to the exhibition “From decomposition to new form: biological inspirations in art’ presented at the Melete Gallery. The works on display are the result of a dialogue between human creativity and Artificial Intelligence algorithms. The exhibition title itself served as the ‘prompt’ (the command given to the algorithm).
Image generators are advanced AI systems capable of creating unique visual compositions based on a textual description known as a prompt. This process does not involve simply cutting and pasting fragments of existing graphics; instead, it relies on ‘understanding’ the correlation between words and pixels. The algorithm learns to recognise styles, textures, and objects, subsequently generating an entirely new form that represents a mathematical interpretation of human concepts.
In the primary exhibition, the works of Sylwia Marszałek-Jeneralczyk and Riina Õun showcase an original and deeply considered use of organic matter and biological forms. In contrast, the images presented here are a record of ‘digital intuition’. By processing the given theme, Artificial Intelligence offers a broad spectrum of visual interpretations that often diverge from the human perception of biology, resulting in a new and intriguing aesthetic of form and decay.
